Information from J A Thickitt: View north-westwards from Tinsley Bridge on Sheffield Road. The railway track along the bottom of the image was the former Great Central Railway line approaching Tinsley South Junction, where the routes to Rotherham and Barnsley diverged (see s26907) In this image the firm's name shown as 'OH' reflected the fashion for organisations to contract their title to two or three letters. The Vulcan Road entrance to East Hecla Works also gave access to engineers known, at the date of this photograph, as Hadfields Ltd, see s22981 (for a period up to 1978/9 being titled Dunford Hadfields). |
